E-Reader Loading Directions

  1. Download the file from the link in the Email you receive with your receipt.
  2. For all devices EXCEPT KINDLE, download the .EPUB file. For Kindle, always select .MOBI.
  3. Save the file to your computer or device, and remember the location.
  4. Next, follow the instructions below to load the book file into your device. This is commonly termed “side-loading.”

Kindle

Make sure you download the “MOBI” file option, NOT EPUB.

Connect through USB:  Plug your Kindle into your computer with a USB cable. It will appear as an additional hard drive under “My Computer” or “This PC.” Move the .mobi book file from your computer to the Kindle “Documents” folder. Disconnect the Kindle and your book should appear in your library, ready to read.
Email to Your Kindle Email Address:  For most Kindles, you can email a .mobi file to a special “Kindle email address.” To find the Kindle email address for each of your devices, go to Amazon.com > Account > Manage Your Kindle and Devices > Settings > Send-to-Kindle E-Mail Settings.
Use the “Send to Kindle” App: Download and install the “Send to Kindle” app at https://www.amazon.com/gp/sendtokindle. Right-click on your .mobi file and select “Send to Kindle.” Choose the device you prefer, and click OK.
Download to Kindle from a Mac: Make sure your web browser Download Preferences are set to ask where you want to save downloads (rather than downloading directly to your Downloads folder).  Plug your Kindle into the Mac with a USB cable. Use the link in the email sent with your receipt and go to the download site in your browser. Click to download the .MOBI file, and when prompted, navigate to your Kindle’s “Documents” folder, and save it there. Wait a few seconds for the Save to complete, then  After a few seconds, then disconnect the Kindle and your book should appear in your library, ready to read.
Add an ebook to the Kindle App on Android: Plug your Android device into your computer with a USB cable. Set your Android device to ‘USB storage.’ (This may be a pop-up query or may require you to activate it via your device Settings.) From your computer’s desktop, navigate to the /kindle folder and copy or move the .MOBI file there. Eject or dismount the phone safely from the computer before disconnecting the cable. Finally, uncheck ‘USB storage’ on your device.

Apple Devices

Download the free iBooks app to your device, and when you move the file to your device, it should give you the option to open it through iBooks.

Nook

Connect the Nook to your computer with a USB cable. It will appear as an additional hard drive. Load the book in to the My Documents folder. Disconnect the Kindle and your book should appear in your library, ready to read.

Kobo Reader

Connect the Kobo Reader to your computer with a USB cable. Tap “Connect” on your Kobo Reader screen, and when prompted, select ‘Open folder to view files.’ A new window should open, displaying the contents of the device—your “Library.” In a second window, navigate to the location of the .epub file on your computer and drag it into the Kobo “Library” window. Disconnect the Kindle and your book should appear in your library, ready to read.

Sony Reader

Connect the Sony Reader to your computer with a USB cable. It will appear as an additional hard drive under “My Computer” or “This PC,” and the Reader Library software will open automatically. Use the link in the email sent with your receipt and go to the download site in your browser. Click to download the .EPUB file. Your browser will show a pop-up asking whether you want to open the file with the Reader software, or save the file. Select “Save,” then navigate to the location where the e-reader appears as a hard drive, labeled as READER. Click the directory for Database, then Books, then save your file.  After you save, wait about 30 seconds, disconnect the e-reader, and your book should appear in your library, ready to read.
